Withersdane Hall Services
The Stages of TreatmentThe different stages in our services represent the levels of care we have found our clients to require during all phases of addiction, behavioural and mood disorders treatment. We have developed these stages with flexible entry points, depending on the requirements of each and every patient based on extensive years of research and practical clinical experience. Each stage is overseen by a multidisciplinary team of experienced professionals including psychiatrists, medical doctors, nurses, care staff and therapists specialising in varied fields of therapeutic treatments. Furthermore, behind the scenes, the clinical team is supported by the rest of our dedicated staff to provide you with a comfortable stay and a life changing experience. All clients undergo a
24 Hour Medical Supervision
The first stage of treatment commonly starts with medical and psychiatric support. When necessary, this involves medically supervised detoxification and stabilisation of clients with substance dependencies. Those experiencing mental health crises are ensured a safe and healthy environment with immediate 24 hour psychiatric assistance.
Our psychiatric and medical nurses extend compassionate, scientifically informed care to each and every client. One-to-one therapy is provided as necessary throughout the process.
Clients often present chronic and health requirements along with the common symptoms of withdrawal including insomnia, anxiety, and depression. Our team is fully qualified and experienced in managing and minimising these issues, providing a comfortable experience compared to what usually is seen as a frightening process.
In this stage, clients are supervised by our psychiatrists to go through a 3 to 5 day period of “acute stabilisation”, with most completing the entire phase of the programme within 7 to 10 days.
* Individuals should not try to detox on their own under any circumstances as doing so may cause extreme discomfort, serious and even life threatening withdrawal symptoms.
Primary Care
Our inpatient treatment programme is designed to provide a comprehensive set of assessment, treatment and recovery services for both addiction and mental health issues. As these problems can often occur together, treatment is based on an integrated approach.
After a client is stabilised, he or she progresses to our private intense rehabilitation programme. This varied and customisable treatment phase offers one-on-one therapy, group therapy, educational lectures, life coaching and personal development, nutrition counselling, animal- assisted therapy, 12-step programmes, and a wide variety of enrichment activities, including yoga, art therapy, sailing and meditation.
Primary care provides a highly structured environment to help clients make the best out of their stay and create a momentum that will help break old patterns and encourage movement toward healthy, independent living.
Our entire treatment team is involved in the delivery of our primary residential treatment programme.
A typical patient stay can range anywhere from 2 to 8 weeks.
Secondary Care & Recovery Respite
Secondary Care provides individuals the opportunity to put into practice what they have learned in previous treatment stages. Coming out of intensive treatment, the next step is to integrate back into daily life. This presents a wonderful opportunity to start anew whilst at the same time external factors triggering old behaviours may still be there and must be overcome with newly acquired tools and strategies.
The Withersdane Hall Secondary Care Programme involves a half day of therapies and activities, allowing clients to spend the rest of the day pursuing personal interests and going about their daily lives. This less intensive approach allows individuals to continuously reevaluate their progress on a daily basis and work on overcoming obstacles on a case by case basis.
During the fragile period of early recovery, it is important to avoid any build up of unresolved issues. Secondary Care enables clients to tackle these issues head on and prevent them from snowballing as well as making real and enduring life changes. Throughout this process, the perception of gaping canyons become small bumps on the road as their emotional muscle is progressively strengthened.
This stage is similarly beneficial and crucial for those experiencing emotional stress, anxiety, depression and burn-out as help is made available daily whilst allowing time for respite and recuperation.
Extended Care
The road to recovery often involves bumps, pitfalls, and setbacks. Some of these highlight our strengths and others point out to areas that we can continue to improve on. Success can not be characterised as the lack of roadblocks that life may throw at us, but as how we perceive and overcome them in an adaptive and rational manner since that’s what contributes to a higher quality of mind and life.
Extended care provides a further level of personal autonomy whilst still being within easy reach of support from our specialised team.
Given that every individual has their own set of circumstances, commitments, and preferences, our extended care programme is extremely flexible and tailored specifically to meet the needs of each patient.
* All clients must have an assessment and be abstinent to participate in the tertiary care programme.
Aftercare & Continuous Support
Recovery is a journey, not a destination, and just like anyone, our patients may continue to need support even after they have completed their treatment programme.

The purpose of our aftercare programme is not only to prevent relapse but to ensure that our patients can continue to embrace new challenges, be it in their careers, relationships or personal development with confidence and enthusiasm.
Before a patient leaves our centre, we develop a specific, individualised continuum of care programme designed to ensure the client’s success. We have connections to treatment options around the world, which means we can refer clients to local treatment options no matter where they live. Furthermore, the therapists with whom the patients would have built a relationship remain accessible at any time of need or on scheduled chats over phone, Skype or in person
