Working with Eating Disorders, a Practical Introduction.

Working with Eating Disorders- a Practical Introduction.

Promis is a world leader in working with Eating disorders and the influence of the Promis Eating disorder guidelines have become an International standard. In the absence of available treatment, families trying to assist a loved one in the grips of this misunderstood and often fatal condition are usually at a complete loss about how to help.  For this reason, this one day course is open to both professionals and concerned members of the public who want to know the practical steps clients can take to manage and heal this life-threatening illness. There is no doubt that for many affected participants this can be a life-changing and defining course and it is our hope that it will become a solid foundation for recovery.

Summary of an abstinent day and a sensible meal.

Lunch 1.00 p.m. – 2.30 p.m.

Lunch will be served at 1.00 p.m. to all course attendees based on recipes from the Promis Recipe Book. After lunch the chef will give a brief talk about the notion of food preference sheets, meal planning and the reasons and the thinking behind today’s meal – this will finish with a Q&A  session about the practical aspects of cooking with regard to Eating Disorders.

Afternoon  3.00 p.m. – 4.00 p.m.

A process group – course attendees will participate in a psycho-dynamic group facilitated by one of the Senior Therapists beginning with a brief summary of why this approach is taken. Group Therapy is one of the most powerful therapeutic techniques and we believe it will give participants the opportunity to experience how the group dynamic might work. The only caveat here is that the topic will be limited to conversations about today’s meal and what has been learned and integrated during the day– this is not the appropriate place or time for discussions about personal trauma although if you want to talk about any matters in more depth please speak to the therapist at the end of the session.

Feedback and closing remarks. 4.00 p.m. – 4.30 p.m.

The course will be delivered by Eric Needham (Msc Addiction Psychology), Linda Stevens and Dan Tunbridge

Eric has worked for the Promis group for many years. He has played a key role both as a senior therapist and clinical manager in the launch of several clinics including Withersdane Hall and Promis France and has over twenty years experience as a teacher, trainer and course developer.

Linda Stevens has been a top therapist at PROMIS’s internationally famous clinic and has specialised in helping clients suffering from eating disorders.
